The Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association, NAFOWA on Saturday held a ‘Mental Health Awareness Walk And Talk’, at the NAF Base, Abuja as part of series of activities lined up to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Nigerian Air Force, NAF.

In her remarks, National President of NAFOWA, Architect RAKIYA ABUBAKAR asked wives of air men to take their mental health seriously, reminding them that mental health and wellness “is a critical part of living a healthy and fulfilling life”.

“Our carefully selected theme “Step by step Embracing Mental Wellness Through Movement” was coined to buttress the pertinence of mental health and advocate for mental wellness through fitness.

“It impacts on our relationship, work and our daily activities. And it remains one of the most under-discussed and undervalued aspects of our lives,” she added.

Speaking in agreement, the event’s special guest of honor and Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator OLUREMI TINUBU noted that her administration recently concluded a high level regional seminar on promoting cancer awareness and advocacy programs for the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

She said one of the major highlights of the program was the importance of prioritizing health as a strategy for cancer prevention. “Eating right and maintaining healthy lifestyle choices was highly recommended”.

Represented by the wife of Minister of State for Defence, AISHA MATAWALLE , the First Lady advised that prioritizing mental health and regular exercise would help women become better wives, mothers and role models. “We can handle challenges of life with greater resilience and radiate positive energy that uplifts those around us,” she added.
